Installing Oracle10g Database Software Requirements Your computer must have the Windows XP Professional or Vista Professional operating system. Your computer should not have any other Oracle products previously installed. If you are attempting to reinstall an Oracle product, you are likely to encounter errors during the installation process. Before proceeding, you should de-install all existing Oracle products using the instructions in the document, "Deinstalling Oracle Products." Disabling any internet security programs such as Symantec or Norton (or the Windows firewall) before you begin will make the installation much simpler. Otherwise, watch for the pop-up windows and allow the installation to proceed. You also must have a loop-back adapter installed or you will not make it through the Product-Specific Prerequisite Check, at the beginning of the installation. See the document, Installing a Loop-back adapter. Hardware Requirements A computer capable of using Microsoft XP Professional (or Vista Professional) operating system. You should have at least a minimum of 512 megabytes of RAM and between 2.5GB to 4GB of hard disk space before installing the software. You are strongly advised to make a complete backup of all the data on the machine that you will install Oracle on, prior to the installation of the Oracle 10g Database software. Obtain Oracle 10g Database Go to the Oracle download web site to download Oracle 10g: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/index.html Download Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows. You will be downloading the file 10201_database_win32.zip. If you have Microsoft Vista, you will need to download Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.3) for Microsoft Windows Vista instead. You will be downloading the file 10203_database_vista.zip. Install Oracle 10g Database 1. After unzipping the file downloaded from Oracle, click on the setup.exe file. 2. On Oracle Database 10g Installation under Basic Installation, leave the Oracle Home Location at the default value, and change Installation Type to Personal Edition. Set the Global Database Name to ORACLASS and enter database password and confirm password. Since there is no need for security, I would suggest setting the password to oracle. Click Next. Valid passwords are between 4 and 30 characters, must begin with a letter, and consist of letters and numerals only. Remember your password. Your instructor may decide to use a different Global Database Name based on the textbook, but any name will work equally well. For example Use "ORACLASS" for 10g Database Administrator I textbook Use "DB101" for 10g Database Administrator II textbook Use "ORCL" for 9i/10g Guide to Oracle textbooks At this point a preinstallation check is performed. Unless you have 0 requirements to verify, they is no point in going further. All issues must be resolved before installation. Your instructor can help; give him or her a call. 3. Click Install. 4. You should see Installation in progress; it takes 10 – 30 minutes. 5. After the initial install succeeds, several Configuration Assistants are also installed. 6. Then the initial database is created. 7. When finished, note the Database Control URL; you may need it later. Click Password Management to unlock the Scott account. 8. Uncheck Lock Account for SCOTT. You can set (and confirm) the password to TIGER again to save being asked to do this later, then click OK. Then click OK on Database Configuration Assistant. We don’t actually use the SCOTT/TIGER account, but if there are installation problems, this user account can help solve them. 9. When the End of Installation page displays and confirms that the installation was successful, note the Database Control URL and the iSQL*Plus URL. You use the URLs to access iSQL*Plus and Enterprise Manager from your windows browser. Click Exit, and then click Yes to confirm exiting. The URL may show localhost instead of your computer name below. WAIT FOR NEXT STEP TO START AUTOMATICALLY. Enteprise Manager 10g Database Control URL: http://cummings:1158/em iSQL*Plus URL: http://cummings:5560/isqlplus Note: For this example, “cummings” is the full computer name. You may use localhost instead of computer name such as http://localhost:1158/em 10. The browser will open Enterprise Manager automatically. Login as SYS to create a new database user. Enter User Name as SYS with Password (password entered in step 2 ) and Connect As SYSDBA. 11. The Oracle Database Licensing Information 10g page will appear.
