what is different between level 1 and level 2 of rman backup?

OK, I guess this is a case where it isn't in the docs. In earlier releases, there were incremental levels 0 through 4. In the current release, there are only levels 0 and 1. You can specify 2, 3, or 4 but the result is a level 1. The other numbers are permitted only for backward compatibility with old scripts.
I forget when the change occired, I think in 10g.
But Andy, don't take my word for it: do a few tests, and prove it. Best of all, write up the results for a blog article.
