Hi Michel,

Thanks for your reply..

Iam not able to connect the database via SQL Plus / Oracle developer client to Increase the process.

Is there any other way to increase the process without connecting the database.

Regards,
Christo

You can always connect as SYS, at least locally, as it is not impacted by this parameter.

Do you use a pfile or a spfile?

The problem is not there.
Change your "processes" parameter in pfile (to what is it set?) and restart the instance.

Ok Michel,

I changed the processes into 500 in init.ora. Previously there is (Processes = 300)

After that i restart the db service using (dbshut and dbstart) command

Still the DB is not connecting, same error..

Connect locally, use SQL*Plus, copy and paste your startup command and the answer.
After the error, copy and paste the last lines of your alert.log file from the startup command (line "Starting ORACLE instance" or "Starting up:" if the previous one is not there) to the end.

Before, Please read How to use [code] tags and make your code easier to read.

Those alert log messages are from BEFORE when Michael asked you to stop and restart the database. Plus you did not include the requested copy and paste of the terminal session where you stop and start the db.

Like this:

"root" can't be used to access/start/stop the database.
Use your Oracle owner OS user.
Which OS user is owner of Oracle files?

Thank you Michel for supporting with me.

'oraclecloud' is the OS users which I see as owner of the oracle being installed.

you were right, I was in root user while trying startup earlier. Now I meet same issue once again, even after I tried connecting as 'oraclecloud' OS user. I tried below commands, pasted for your reference. Can you please guide me, what is wrong with my configuration?

Same thing for this new user: the result of the 3 commands above.
In addition:
ps -eaf | grep pmon
ls -ld $ORACLE_HOME
cat /home/oraclecloud/app/oraclecloud/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/shutdown.log
cat /home/oraclecloud/app/oraclecloud/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/startup.log

Have you really install Oracle with "users" group?
I don't know if it is supported, you should have at least a "dba" group (not necessary named "dba") and, preferably, an Oracle installation group (usually named "oinstall" but can be what you want, except a standard one).

Also, depending how your dynamic link loader, you should set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include $ORACLE_HOME/lib (in addition to /lib and /usr/lib, depending on your installation).

Also "Please look at trace files" as Oracle tells.

In my opinion, you should reinstall Oracle following the recommendations of the "Install" book.

I did notice this,
Quote:
I changed the processes into 500 in init.ora. Previously there is (Processes = 300)
you have changed the wrong file, your instance will be using a file named initoracle.ora
Though if your database instance is anything like normal, it will actually be using an spfile.

Probably best to start again, with release 12.2 rather than 11.2.0.1.

Gee! You're right, I wrongly assumed init.ora means init<sid>.ora as senior (ab)usually tell it.

Hi Michel , John Watson

I tried to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH = $ORACLE_HOME/lib
Also changed the Processes = 500 in spfileoracle.ora file placed in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs location and start, stop the instance and verified the startup.log.

Still the below error exist

SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.1.0 Production on Wed Aug 2 11:06:15 2017

How did you do this? spfile is a binary file, it can't be modified simply using a text editor.

Hi Michel,

I directly open the spfileoracle.ora file and modified the "Processes = 500" using text editor and open using vi editor and verified. It is modified.
Is there any other way to modify the Processes?

Sure the correct ways are:
1/ Use, when database is at least in NOMOUNT mode, ALTER SYSTEM ... SCOPE=SPFILE
2/ Use, when database is at least in NOMOUNT mode, CREATE PFILE=... FROM SPFILE and modify the pfile with a text editor.

Use the second way and post your generated pfile.
And do NOT use dbstart/dbstop, use ONLY SQL*Plus.

Still same error is throwing

You have destroyed your spfile by editing it manually. Best to remove everything, and start again.

No, it is not the only way. However, in your case, it probably is.
I'm not going to tell you how to do it. Deinstallation is well described in the docs. However, you might find it quicker to re-install Linux.
Note that the latest release, 12.2.0.1, is not certified for Suse Linux. You could consider using OEL instead.

Hi John,

You mean we need to re-install Linux or re-install Oracle alone?

What did you do to come to this point?
Once again, post the content of '/home/oraclecloud/app/oraclecloud/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/dbs/initoracle.ora', or better attach the file to your post.

Hi Michel,

Thanks for you helping me.. I tried with su oracle and then connect with sql*plus using sysdba, it is connected.

Under the '/home/oraclecloud/app/oraclecloud/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/dbs' location i found only init.ora and spfileoracle.ora files but not find 'initoracle.ora'

Christo, this is hopeless. One moment you say this:
Quote:
SQL> startup
ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters
and the next moment this:
Quote:
SQL> startup
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
These are different problems with different causes and solutions. I now have no idea what is going on.

Result of same commands with "oracle" than with "root" and "oraclecloud" above?
Post the spfile.
Do not post an abstract of your sqlplus session ALWAYS post the COMPLETE session including the prompt following the last command.
