I have a system that is configured with the following parameters, it is an 8i database.

log_checkpoint_interval integer 5000000
log_checkpoint_timeout integer 0
fast_start_io_target integer 314568
fast_start_mttr_target integer 0
db_block_max_dirty_target integer 15000

the database is going to be upgraded to 9i
the parameter db_block_max_dirty_target is obsolete in 9i.
to my mind a figure of 5000000 for log check point interval is very excessive. The documentation for the db_block_max parameter just says it is obsolete in 9i yet it is used in the existing application to help smooth out excessive very high bursts of oracle writing to disk. I would appreciate peoples views on the above parameters.

regards

Alan.

I'm not sure I'm familiar enough with 8i specific params to help you, but I take it you have an overwhelmingly good reason for going from 8i to 9i rather than from 8i to 10g?

the application that runs on the database has not yet been ported to 10g which is a bit of a problem.
