hey all,
i just issued a command CREATE SPFILE FROM PFILE;
The command failed. Since then whenever i try to issue the STARTUP Command following error is coming
ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters
LRM-00109: could not open parameter file 'C:\ORACLE\ORA92\DATABASE\INITORA.ORA'.
What is the solution? kindly reply.
Thanks and Regards

How are you starting your database? Have you verified that an SPFILE exists in C:\ORACLE\ORA92\DATABASE ?

Do you have a file called C:\ORACLE\ORA92\DATABASE\INITORA.ORA? Also, check the permissions on the file. Oracle (obviously) has a problem reading it.

I checked in the location, it does not have any spfile.
How can it be so? I am using 9i . The OUI creates it during the installation.

You mention OUI? Did you create a database at the same time you installed the Oracle software?

Did this database ever start? You mentioned that you received an error when you tried to create an SPFILE. What error did you get? As Frank indicated, do you have an init file anywhere on the server?

When i install the oracle software, in the OUI option under the global database name and sid i gave the name ORA.
after the installation ,the database ora was created and the service was started. I had only the init.ora file in oracle\admin\pfile.
the instance ora was started and i connected as sysdba.
When i issued the command create spfile from pfile, the command failed . Since then when ever i log on it says connected to an idle instance. when i issue startup then those errors.
