Hi,
my doubt will be sounding stupid,
but please clarify my doubt.

When we install oracle in a server, at the time of installation itself as a part of installtion, it ask for new sid name and all other specification for creating a new database in the server.

My doubt is can we just install the oracle s/w alone and latter can create a database? ( manually by script?)
(my o/s 2000server and 9i)

In Unix server also can we install oracle s/w first then later can create db by db-creating scripts?

During installation, under installaion type

Select 'Oracle software only'
Looks like you are selecting the option to install software and create a database .

Read teh installtion types (description) carefully .

Or you can select "Custom" type of installation also. Refer appropriate sections from installation guide at:
