let us suppose that i've several instances running on the same box - on the same oracle software binaries.

suppose an instance is to be decommissioned/removed - what are the files to be removed?

the data files, the control files, the spfile, the archive logs, the dumps - what else?

appreciate the feedback.

Remove your system.dbf and indexe files as well.

ORATAB is in the /var or /opt directory?

Try 'find ./ -name ORATAB -print' from your su account in the root directory.

perhaps in /var/opt/oracle/ORATAB ? (Solaris)
