hello,

Is it possible to have a db_name longer than 8 characters.
When I create a database using DBCA and enter a DB_NAME longer than 8 characters it looks like DBCA is accepting this. But when I proceed the installation steps, I discover in step 11 of 12, when pressing the "File Location Variabels"-button, that my db_name has been changed in the first 8 characters of my wanted db_name.

Does anybody know a solution to this problem?

Best Regards, Hans

A database name cannot be longer than 8 characters.

If I remember correctly, Oracle fixed the DBCA problem in 10.2.0.X.

Hello Frank,
Thanks for your reply, but at this moment I'm working with version 10.2.0.2 for Windows 32-bit. So, it seems that I can't still use more than 8 characters for my DB_NAME. Do you agree?
Regards, Hans

As far as I understand Oracle fixed DBCA to not allow users to enter more than 8 characters. Maybe the patch didn't make it into 10.2.0.2 on Windows in time.
