Oracle 9i Installation Error on Windows XP Home Edition [message #188558]

Hello

I am trying to install Oracle 9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition for Windows NT/2000/XP (9.2.0.1) on my laptop. The OS is Windows XP Home Edition.

I am getting the following error as soon as the installation process starts:

The java runtime environment was not found at C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ASHU\LOCAL SETTINGS\Temp\OraInstall08-16-2006\jre\bin\javaw.exe. Hence, the Oracle Universal Installer cannot be run.
Please visit http://www.javasoft.com and install JRE version 1.3.1 or higher and try again.

1. I have downloaded and installed the latest verion of JRE.
2. TEMP variable is set to C:\Windows|Temp
3. I have modified the PATH variable to point to javaw.exe in the installed location (C:\Program Files etc).

I need help to fix this issue. Can someone please advise me on this problem?

Oracle doesn't support Home Edition. You need to upgrade the OS to at least Windows XP Professional.

Frank, I've successfully installed 9i on my XP Home.
Have you set your classpath properly?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I had the classpath checked out by a DBA and he said it was ok. He couldn't figure out the problem either, so I have ordered the evaluation version. Maybe installing from CD would be better. Previously I had downloaded the 3 disks from Oracle's website and that was not working at all.

I am trying to recall what I have done to get it to work on XP home. It could be a path problem. Your installation path contains blanks. Not all programs work well with these kind of paths. So maybe you simply need to put everything in a
"C:\orainstall" directory instead of "C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ASHU\LOCAL SETTINGS\Temp\OraInstall08-16-2006\"

Note: this is a long shot.
