Hello
i am new to Oracle,and i feel it is difficult to keep track of all oracle products and patch releases.can anyone give some tips how to move ahead.

you don't have to. Oracle does that for you.
Just check the metalink patch updates/ campatability matrices.
Sign up for patchset/obsolete/desupport notices (it should be activited from your profile i beleive. talk to your metalink administrator).
And to find what patchsets are already installed in your ORACLE_HOME
