hello
on unix based systems its required to set the DISPLAY environement ,
if im working locally on the same unix box is that necessary, or its used if i am connecting from a windows workstation and i want that graphical application that i run on the unix both get displayed on my windowx workstation ?

DISPLAY is required if you want to run something like xwindows

On the remote machine, set your DISPLAY environment variable so that the application will display graphics to your Xterminal and run the application.

setenv DISPLAY adress:0.0
or
export DISPLAY adress:0.0

i mean if i connect using telnet from my windows workstation to a unix server hosting oracle 9i database server, and i want to run oem on this server but i want it to display on my windows machine since the server has no monitor and there is no physical access to the server room, how shall i do so

You'll need an X-Windows emulator on your Windows box in order to do that. Here is a list of vendors.

Why cant you....

Just download and install the full oracle client onto the windows machine, oem comes with it.

Configure tnsnames etc

Forget about display and xterm ???
