Can someone please explain me the difference between a service name and an SID?

Hi,
Service Name = SID
db_name <> SID
( when you specify separate)
otherwise db_name and SID is some.


If the database is Oracle9i or Oracle8i, use the SERVICE_NAME parameter rather than the SID parameter.
